What Is MSME?

MSME stands Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. MSME is the apex body for the formulation and administration of rules, regulations and laws pertaining to micro, small and medium enterprises in India.

MSME is a branch of the Government of India. The turnover and workforce of micro, small and medium sized enterprises vary according to the different countries. In India, under section 7 of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development (MSMED) Act 2006, Indian government specifies the size of micro, small and medium enterprises on the basis of investment.

In Case of Manufacturing Enterprises, investment in the plant and machinery doesn’t exceed 25 lakh rupees for Micro Enterprises, where investment in the plant and machinery is from 25 lakh to 5 crore rupees is specified as Small Enterprises and where investment in the plant and machinery is from 5 crore to 10 crore rupees is specified as Medium Enterprises.

Similarly in case of Service Enterprises, investment in equipment does not exceed 10 lakh rupees for Micro Enterprises, where investment in equipment is from 10 Lakh to 2 crore rupees is specified as Small Enterprises and where investment in equipment is from 2 crore to 5 crore rupees is specified as Medium Enterprises.

Micro Enterprise

- Investment in Machinery: Not more than INR 25 lakh
- Investment in equipment: Not more than INR- -10 lakh

Small Enterprise

- Investment in Machinery: Between INR 25 lakh and 5 Crore
- Investment in equipment: between INR 10 lakh and 2 Crore

Medium enterprise

- Investment in Machinery: Between INR 5 Crore and 10 Crore
- Investment in equipment: Between INR 2 Crore and 5 Crore

No collateral on loans:

MSME registered companies don’t need to pay security to obtain the loan from banks.

Subsidy in patent registration: :

There is a 50 % subsidy in patent registration for the MSMEs

Grant in Trademark registration:

There is a 50 % subsidy in trademark registration for the MSMEs

Access to Industrial promotion subsidy:

Under the Industrial promotion plan, the MSMEs enjoy a lot of grants when they wish to improve their equipment.

Electricity bill Concessions:

MSMEs can get concessions in their electricity bill.

Low-cost ISO certification:

An MSME can ask for reimbursement for the charges of ISO certification.
